GETTING TO HAKUBA

Family Travel Options

HAKUBA ski resort is located in Nagano prefecture in Japan. Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports are the closest international airports to Hakuba. It's best to arrive early morning if you'd like most transfer options to be available - unless you'd like to explore Tokyo. From Tokyo, the journey ranges from 3 to 6 hours. These are the 4 main transfer options (with approx costs per adult):

1. Airport Train or Taxi to Tokyo Station, Shinkansen to Nagano then Bus or Taxi from Nagano to Hakuba (3 hours) 

Shinkansen Tokyo Station - Nagano ¥11,600 & Bus Nagano - Hakuba ¥1,800 

TIP:  prebook Shinkansen & pay cash for bus tickets at the convenient store near the bus stop as it's first come first serve basis. If you don't take bus from Nagano, prebook a taxi, approx cost is ¥15,800 for jumbo taxi.

 2. Express Bus from Haneda/Narita/Shinjuku to Hakuba (6 hours) ¥ 9,200

3. Private Van/Taxi (5-6 hours) Approx Cost 8 seater ¥12,900  - ¥15,900

4. Car Rental (4 hours drive) Approx Cost for 4WD per day ¥20,000 

Most travel packages will include bus or private van transfers. You can also book it yourself.

Private Van: Chuo

Car Rental: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Nissan, Orix, Toyota Rent a Car

TIP - Make sure you have your valid drivers licence and your international drivers licence on hand. Book as early as possible to get the vehicle of your choice and appropriate tyres.
